Top Billin' is coming to Bristol!

So it's been a slow summer for Top Billin', at least as far as the website goes, because we have been hitting far too many festivals with Sika Studios who smashed it everytime! So big up to Chris and the Sika famalam!

Souls of Miischief are touring with thier new album Montezuma's Revenge. These legends of US hip hop are blessing us with a date at the White Rabbit!!!!

SOULS OF MISCHIEF, a group that has built a notoriously strong global fan base, since the 1993 release of their first certified hip hop classic Jive Records album ’93 TILL INFINITY’, return with hip hop royalty and producer extraordinaire PRINCE PAUL [DE LA SOUL / GRAVEDIGGAZ / HANDSOME BOY MODELLING SCHOOL / STETASONIC].
The new album, to be released in Spring 2010, comes off the back of a massive US & European tour that took in all the major countries / states including Paris, Amsterdam, Barcelona, Berlin & a roadblock instore at the CARHARTT STORE in London’s Covent Garden. Joining the fab four on the road where PRINCE PAUL himself and TAJAI’S latest signing to his own imprint, CLEAR LABEL, DEEPROOTED.

For those not in the know SOULS OF MISCHIEF are an alternative hip-hop group hailing from Oakland, CA. Also part of the hip-hop collective HIEROGLYPHICS. THE SOULS OF MISCHIEF formed in 1991 and are comprised of emcees A-PLUS, OPIO, PHESTO, and TAJAI. As a group, SOM have released 4 critically acclaimed albums and have been certified Gold by the RIAA. Their newest long awaited release MONTEZUMA’S REVENGE will be dropping on their very own HIERO IMPERIUM RECORDS. Having left the Jive Record situation they set up on their own and changed the game forming a fresh blueprint for many Independent hip hop labels of the last fifteen years.

“I remember meeting EL-P [ex Company Flow member and founder of Def Jux Records], Tajai explains…”and he was like”…‘when I first was thinking about setting up the label it was your template that I looked to, you guys where the ones I thought had that sh*t locked’

The label enabled them to promote and market themselves on their own terms, Phesto Adds “With the Jive situation they where a pop label that had like Brittney, Backstreet Boys and all that, they wanted us to come out on a mad commercial tip, like some kind of boy band!”….”We wasn’t having it so we broke out!”

MONTEZUMA’S REVENGE is definitely a product of such creative freedom and legendary producer PRINCE PAUL only added fuel to the four emcee’s melting pot as Opio recalls…”working with Paul was a dream…he’s just so talented it was a real buzz, we knew we had to be on point!” with most sessions being done remotely these days he continues to spread light on their process “Paul just came down to the Montezuma House our spot in Oakland…we just locked ourselves in and boom! This is was what came out!”

PRINCE PAUL’S involvement with the new album isn’t the only collaborative effort worth mentioning. The crew reached out to artist Steven Lopez to paint a portrait of the group and album producer PAUL. Lopez is perhaps best known for his street art and work with ERYKAH BADU.

Lopez, being a fan of SOM himself since their debut album, 93 'til Infinity gladly accepted. "When you work with other artists of the same caliber, there is no need to convince or walk them through. They are legit and it didn't take us long to have faith in each other. The icing on the cake was the fact that these cats are die-hard b-boys. This has always been my attitude in life and it was great to share it with them," stated Lopez when asked about his experience working with SOM.

I've been onto Sha Stimuli for a minute now (admittedly i should have been on this ish a long time ago) and this man has BARS!!!!! Him and DJ Victorious are coming over from Brooklyn with the End of the Weak team and we are lucky enough to be getting him at the Rabbit! I have no doubt in my mind this man is gonna kill it!

As if Sha Stimuli wasn't enough we have even more on the line-up!

DUBBLEDGE!!!

On Facebook I asked who peeps wanted to see and Dubbledge is who you wanted, so our friends at End of the Weak said then he shall come to Plymouth!!!! I've seen this man live once before and is one of the best live acts i've seen! Be ready Top Billin' peeps! Dubbledge takes no prisoners!!!

KINGPIN

Kingpin is on it at the moment! He's releasing his debut LP "The Initiative" the night before in London and it features a lot of UK heavyweights!!!! This guy can freestyle like a m**********r and is one to be watching this year!!

DJ SNUFF

Founder of the notorious 'Speakers Corner' event in London and a major player in one of the worlds biggest hip-hop movements End Of The Weak. This man reps everything that is real about hip-hop!!!

Sika Studios has also called on some its fam to come down with some extra support...

Mr Wheelz killed it when he supported Skinnyman back at Novembers Top Billin' so we had to get him down again to show ya how its done!

Flash Harry's set smashed it last time and he will certainly do the same again this time... playing a mash-up set of everything its one to be looking forward to.....

Sleaze will be hosting as usual but with Mr Wheelz lending him a hand as co-host for this one!

The End of a wasteman.......

So 2009 is over, the beard has gone and a new beginning for Top Billin'! Too many things in the pipeline to be talking about but just know we be doin' it BIG in 2010!

We've got more things in the pipeline than a blocked sewage system this year! Expect major re-hauls of everything. Our venue has undergone some major changes, including increasing its capacity to 600!

2010 is bringing new friends, new bigger things and of course just good old sick hip-hop!

As a footnote I wanna shout out all the peeps who have shown love this year! Also wanna apologise to a few peeps for being a wasteman!
